Abstract
Full Abstract:
Stratum boundaries for 2000 to present for the Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey. This data view presents polygons which represent the stratum boundaries for the survey. This data view uses the geo schema as it contains geospatial information. Therefore, no CSV report is available for this data view.

Geographic Description:
Within the United States of America and Canada. The Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey is composed of two distinct survey areas: first, the traditional area, which has been surveyed in its current design since 1974 and extends from coastal Alaska through the boreal forest to western Ontario, and through the parklands and prairies south to South Dakota; second, the eastern area, which has been surveyed since 1990 and covers portions of Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, the Canadian Maritimes, and Maine.

The Service creates metadata records in accordance with the standards endorsed by the Federal Geographic Data Committee. As a result of the above considerations, the Service gives no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the data. It is the responsibility of the data user to use the data in a manner consistent with the limitations of geospatial data in general and these data in particular. Although these data have been processed successfully on a computer system at the Service, no warranty, expressed or implied, is made regarding the utility of the data on another system or for general or scientific purposes, nor shall the act of distribution constitute any such warranty. This applies to the use of the data both alone and in aggregate with other data and information.

Supplemental Information
Environment Description:
Microsoft Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 2; ESRI ArcCatalog 9.2.6.1500. Extracted coordinates of polygon vertices from pilot maps. The coordinates of vertices defining the boundaries of survey strata were recorded from paper navigation maps (NAD27) containing hand-drawn stratum boundaries. After extracting coordinates, these were transformed to NAD83 and input into .gen files. The .gen files were then used to generate stratum polygons using GENERATE in ARC/INFO.
Supplemental Information:
Where political divisions and/or coastlines (inland or ocean) are included in stratum boundaries, these lines were derived from ESRI World Basemap Data (on-line), Geographic coordinates (NAD83). Normally a stratum boundary coverage consists of a single polygon, but there are instances where a stratum is comprised of multiple polygons. There are entries in the attribute tables showing the number of polygons and total area for all polygons in the stratum.
